VITAL CONNECTIONS
September classes
ALEBRIJES impersonation activity
During this class, I decided to continue with the idea of creating a digital presence that would resemble the unique qualities of each child, that is why I proposed to mimic with their body how their alebrijes would move in real life, that is, I asked each one if their alebrijes would fly or walk, what sounds they would make, what name they would have and what they would eat.
The drawings and videos below are the alebrijes that were personified through the movement and mimicry of the children, I then relied on those videos to give them movement according to how they indicated that their drawings moved.
Thaumatrope creation activity
During this class, I decided to start explaining to them the bases of how optics and cinematographic movement work, because after having explored creation from drawing with them, I was interested in teaching them the connection between analog drawing and digital image / cinema.
It made sense to explain from the analogue how cinema itself had its origins more than 100 years ago with the same experiments that they did in class, it was incredible to be able to translate the history of art, cinema, drawing, and animated movement into an exercise as simple and affordable as creating a thaumatrope or 'spinning wonder' as a craft at home.
Below are the images of the process that the children sent during the class, it was really a fantastic exercise for both them and me, it was very beautiful and they managed to see with their own eyes the movement of their own drawing live and direct .
